Is forced labour in the UK today a form of slavery?

Talk by Rowena Shepherd titled “Forced Labour in the UK: would you recognise it if you saw it?”

imagesRowena Shepherd will talk about what forced labour is, where it is found in the UK and whether it is a form of slavery. She will discuss indicators of forced labour and tips on how to recognise it.

She’ll cover how forced labour is tackled officially, describe the relevant_infographic_final_3025472a law and the impact of the Modern Slavery Act 2015,  and discuss problems and difficulties with enforcement.

Most importantly Rowena will suggest what you might do if you suspect you have encountered it.

Rowena is doing a PhD, Hull University, titled ‘The Extent of Forced Labour in the UK’  under supervision from Dr M Wilkinson and Prof K Bales. The impact of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 is an important part of her work.  She lives in Farnham and is a member of Farnham Amnesty
