Sunday May 15th, 7.15pm for 7:30pm
Daniel Hall, Long Garden Walk, Farnham, GU9 7HX.
A talk and Q&A session about the new innovative monthly magazine Humanistically Speaking given by its pioneer and editor, David Brittain.
Humanistically Speaking began in late 2019 when David and three others agreed to establish an online Humanist magazine aimed at reviewing Human issues in the widest possible sense, but primarily from a Humanist perspective.
As an independent grassroots magazine, Humanistically Speaking has been allowed to examine issues far beyond those traditionally thought to be Humanist. As a result, they have been free to explore subjects as wide as genetics, war, prostitution, astronomy, climate change, democracy, our relationship with animals, witchcraft and recreational drug use – all viewed through a Humanist lens.
Humanistically Speaking has grown at an extraordinary pace and now has an estimated monthly readership of around 3,500. David says it has been an exciting journey so far, but there is so much more ground yet to cover. This is just the beginning.
David Brittain has had a rich and varied career in Humanism since joining what is now Humanists UK in 2005.
After establishing Bedford Humanists and training as a celebrant, he was appointed Chaplain of the armed forces Humanists in 2011. He transformed the latter into an organisation that won recognition from the Ministry of Defence and became the Defence Humanists.
Moving to Basingstoke in 2014, he established Basingstoke Humanists before founding the South Central England Humanist Network (SCEHN).
