Saturday August 6th 11 a.m.
Roman Walls of Calleva Atrebatum and lunch at the Calleva Arms
Do come and join in Farnham Humanists and Basingstoke Humanists’ shared walk including a circuit of the Roman Walls of Calleva Atrebatum.
We’re meeting at the Silchester Roman car park at Wall Lane at 11.00am on the 6th August (postcode RG7 2HP) to start walking at 11:15.
This will be an easy walk totalling about 2 ½ miles. We will visit the amphitheatre and also the local parish church situated within the Roman town and dating from the 12th century. From here we will continue into Silchester village for lunch at the Calleva Arms.
After lunch we will walk a mile back to the car park at the starting point. Alternatively visitors may like to linger and examine the Reading University excavation which should be in progress.
There will be an option to participate in a shorter walk of about 1¼ miles. A car will be available at the parish church to ferry people back to their vehicles or to the Calleva Arms. Similarly after lunch we will transport people back to their cars if they do not wish to walk.
A booking has been made for 1.30 p.m at the Calleva Arms Silchester. We will be required to order food in advance to assist with catering.
If you would like to go on the walk please email secretary@farnham.humanist.org.uk by July 20th
